Innovation is not about reinventing the wheel, but about finding new ways to realise existing ideas. We believe that encouraging this kind of ingenuity is crucial, especially for aspiring engineers.
Therefore, we sponsored the Smart Campus Challenge at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (“UTeM”). This sponsorship reflected our commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the development of future engineering talent.
In the semiconductor test industry, our R&D and field engineers were often faced with new challenges. Some were easy to solve, while others required creative problem solving and innovative thinking. We believed that fostering critical and creative thinking was the best way to cultivate this essential skill.
The Smart Campus Challenge provided a platform for students to start small but think big, focusing on their everyday campus environment. They were encouraged to explore how even small technological adjustments could lead to significant improvements in convenience and efficiency. The diverse projects included a smart car parking system, smart sanitary dispensers, an on-campus bus tracking system, an IoT-based real-time monitoring system for campus lake water quality and etc. These projects demonstrated the students’ ability to translate their engineering knowledge into practical, tangible solutions.
As sponsors and judges, we were impressed by the ingenuity and dedication of the UTeM students. In just under a month, they have demonstrably strengthened the spirit of innovation within their campus community. Their creative solutions and relentless pursuit of excellence were a promising indication of the bright future of the Malaysian engineering sector.
